History

1959 - 1964: The first steps

In 1959, Nora and Admiral Claude Lionel Cumberlege arrived in Mallorca, seeking to escape the bustling tourist boom in the south of France, in Antibes. After a few months exploring the island, the Cumberlege family discovered a property that immediately captivated them. In 1962, they decided to buy it, and a year later, in 1964, they opened the doors of what would become an emblematic place: The Sea Club. Admiral Claude passed away in 1963, and it was Nora who carried on the vision for the place. She made several improvements, including a swimming pool, a bar and beautiful terraces, making the property more accessible to the public. The Sea Club soon became a favourite retreat for a group of young Londoners, including actor Sean Connery, who came to the island in 1964 to shoot a film in Cala Ratjada. This encounter with social life and cinema helped the place grow rapidly, establishing itself as one of the island's most sought-after destinations.

History

1964 - 1992: Consolidation and growth

Throughout the following decades, The Sea Club maintained its unique character, with its cool white walls and commanding views of the Mediterranean Sea. The combination of natural beauty and welcoming ambience made the club a favourite meeting place for those looking to enjoy tranquillity and fun in an exclusive setting. The fame of the place continued to expand, thanks in part to the constant evolution and improvements that were made, always respecting the original essence. In 1992, after Nora's death, her son Luis Cumberlege took over the management of the club, continuing the family legacy with a focus on preserving the essence and spirit that had marked its beginnings.

History

1993 onwards: The third generation

In 2021, Nora's grandsons Luke and Nicholas Cumberlege took over The Sea Club, ushering in a new era for the iconic venue. The third generation of the family is committed to keeping the history of this unique venue alive, while implementing renovations that combine the best of tradition with modern comforts, without losing the authenticity that has characterised the club since its opening. Today, The Sea Club remains a popular destination, known for its relaxed atmosphere, history and spectacular views. Over the years, it has evolved without losing the essence that has made it a reference point in Mallorca.
